SUMMARY:
Several years ago, various areas along Lohmann Street in front of Fabra Elementary were designated as “No Parking” zones. This was done at the request of Boerne Independent School District to help facilitate traffic flow and pedestrian safety during pick-up hours. Per the School’s request, the parking restrictions were set to the hours of 2:00-4:00 PM on School Days. Please see the attached map in regard to the restrictions that were implemented at that time.
The new principal at Fabra Elementary has requested that additional restrictions be implemented along Lohmann Street between the two driveways servicing the cafeteria and the gymnasium. At that location, we were requested to add the hours of 7:00-8-00 AM (drop-off time) to the already restricted pick-up hours. This would presumably allow room for the traffic queues on the approach to the gymnasium area, and enhance maneuverability for through traffic at the pedestrian crosswalk in that area. School Administration is actively promoting the use of that crosswalk as a safe place to cross the street.
Staff concurs that this is a reasonable request and recommends Council approval.
