SUMMARY:
We have 2 amendments to the Fee Ordinance for Council’s consideration.
First, Staff is recommending an additional Brush Collection Fee to allow for property owners that do not have an active residential utility account to have brush picked up for a charge of $25 per pick up. Since these property owners do not have an active residential account and are not paying the additional $1 per month for Solid Waste service, they will be charged for each pick up.
Second, the following changes are being proposed to the Cemetery fees:
Lot Sales: Currently the rates are $900 in sequence and $1,200 out of sequence. The proposed fee is $2,750 per lot.
Endowment Fee on Lot Sale: Currently the rate is $50 per lot. The proposed fee is $250.
Cemetery Urn Garden Niche: Currently the rate is $750 per niche. The proposed fee is $1,000.
Cemetery Urn Garden Niche Sale Endowment: Currently the fee is $50 upon purchase and $100 upon inurnment. The proposed fee is $100 upon purchase and $200 upon inurnment.
Staff did a survey of local cemeteries to see how Boerne Cemetery fees compared. While we are not at the bottom of the list we were on the low end when compared to those facilities we most closely resemble. The proposed fee would put us on the upper end of that list but still less than some in the area.
The increase in fees has been discussed with both owners of the local funeral homes and they have expressed their support for the increase in fees.
These fees will be effective September 23, 2015.
